GS was born in 1979 in the state of Odisha, India. He obtained his M.Sc. from Utkal University in 2001. Briefly he joined IIT Kanpur for the M.Tech programme in Material Science, but after only 2 months, he moved to NCL for PhD programme in November 2001. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2008 from National Chemical Laboratory, Pune under the supervision of Dr. M. K. Gurjar. He subsequently joined the pharma industry (SAPL, Pune) as research associate for ~2 years, before moving to Finland in 2011 for postdoctoral research at University of Jyväskylä, Finland with Prof. Petri M. Pihko. He stayed there for 5 years with two consecutive post-docs including a period of research on computational chemistry with Prof. Karoliina Honkala. He then started his independent career in 2016 and currently holds the position of associate professor at NIT Rourkela. He enjoys his teaching. His research interests include organocatalysis, carbohydrate chemistry, mechanistic interpretation, and natural product synthesis.
